American Airlines - JFK Airport
American Airlines improves the baggage handling process in JFK International Airport Terminal 8
American Airlines, the third largest carrier at JFK International Airport, recently completed an RFID initiative aimed to improve baggage operations at JFK’s Terminal 8. Operated by American Airlines, Terminal 8 handles 8.4 million passengers per year. The approximate number of bags handled in T8 per day is 12,500, with a peak of up to 25,000. The RFID initiative, delivered by Lyngsoe Systems, illuminated important discoveries in the baggage handling processes at Terminal 8 – discoveries which led to changes in various handling processes and uncovered strategic business opportunities. Without altering any physical installations in the baggage handling, the immediate results included a reduction in tracers and transparency through the entire baggage process.
