RFID middleware

RFID middleware is an important part of any passive or active RFID system. RFID technology itself does not provide item visibility but needs middleware to uniquely identify, track and share data regarding the movements and locations of items.

The RFID middleware functions as the vital link between the RFID hardware and the customer’s software solution and is essential equipment if an RFID system is to identify, sort and filter the huge amount of data gathered from the RFID equipment.

Since 1994, EDECS (Expandable Data Exchange Communication System) middleware has been used on all Lyngsoe RFID products, which comprise both proprietary and open standards, and has been continuously developed to fit newly available technologies. EDECS is approved and certified by EPC Global, and is currently running at approximately 1600 sites all over the world.

EDECS middleware can process more than just RFID dataRFID middleware

The EDECS middleware processes data captured from all sources and devices, including from barcodes and RFID, and via static or mobile devices or a combination of these. EDECS enables on-site, real-time transactions of all data types to be captured and processed for exception handling, reconciliation, RFID cross-reads, data processing and filtering to provide valid and clean data for further use in the software solution.

EDECS RFID middleware is standard in all Lyngsoe RFID solutions and compatible with all current software standards used in the logistics field today.
